Well, it should hold up. The 110BA has an effective break but it is still a good amount of recoil. It will all depend on the quality of the internal mechanisms on the scope.

Love my 110BA with a 6x24x50 Vortex viper PST scope. After several months of sighting in my scope and experimenting with several different brands of ammunition, I found out that my 110BA likes 250 gr Lapua brand ammo. And I was able to put 5 rounds at 100 yards in center mass covering the size of a dime.

I just purchased a Savage 110BA 338LM on recommendation from a friend that has had the 110BA in 338LM for a couple of years and with his hand loads he regularly gets sub 1/4 moa groupings at 100y. I think he has a Jewell trigger in it also.

I commented on this site back on Nov 2015, and now have a followup. I finally tested my converted Savage 110FCP-HS to 110BA with the McGowan barrel. At 600yds, my best 4-rd grouping was 1.75″ (⅓ moa), but consistently hit 2.5″ groups ( .4 moa) with 5-8mph crosswinds. At 100yds, my 3-rd groups were under ¼”. My Savage likes Lapua brass and has extraction problems with HSM brass. After doing extensive barrel harmonics testing (Ladder tests), my current loads: Berger 300 Hybrid bullets, Federal 215 primers, and 90.3gr of H1000. All bullets and powder are weighed the same, the brass trimmed the same, and annealed often. I seat the bullets to .003-.005″ off the lands (bullets varied .002″ at the ogive). Remember, this load only works for MY rifle. Caution-this load may not be suitable or even safe for yours. Commenting on those shooters (including myself) who have had extraction issues even with Lapua brass, I discovered that a hot barrel contributes to this dramatically. I had stuck brass at 84.0grs-89.5grs with continued shooting. Allowing the barrel to cool after 3-4 rds fired, I was able to load up to 93.0grs without extraction issues. Now, the only issue now is at the hotter loads, the magazine loosens, drops down slightly, and causes feeding problems. I addressed this with Savage and we think it might have to do with the combination of converting to the BA stock and the hotter loads. I made an adjustment to the mag release lip (on the mag) and will be heading out to the range soon to test it. Comments and feedback on this are welcomed.

We have ran into occasions where a trigger finger may not properly displace the little “blade” all the way so that you will only get a “click” but the firing pin does not drop. Head to the range and make sure your trigger finger is placed all the way on that trigger and making a nice “J” shape so that it fully displaces that blade when pulling the trigger. See if that is the issue or not.

With the accutrigger a simple adjustment will do most of the time.

Bought the BA110 1 year ago. Installed a Millet 6x24x50 scope. Yes, this is a low end build for this caliber. After ladder tests with different brass bullet combinations, best results for my build was Lapua brass, 285gr Hornady ELD bullets pushed by 86gr Retumbo. This is not a portable setup, but on the bench is very manageable for this power chambering. Living in the northeast, my long range options are limited, but I consistently have 1moa results at 200 yds w 5 shot groups. Recent foray to 600 yd range resulted in excellent X ring consistency after three ‘ranging’ rounds. I am very pleased with results. FYI, I did not get the consistency until after.

I purchased my 110 BA about 6 months ago for $1,360 after rebate. After brakining it in I took it Big Piney gun range 2 days ago, shot it 100 yards out to 800 yards. This was my first time shooting over 100 yards. I shot sub moa all the way out to 800yds. First time reloading also, you better believe I’m happy. I would recomend the Savage 110 BA to everyone, not one problem with this gun to date.

I’ve had my Savage 110 BA now for just over a year. Did nothing to it other than mount a Millet LRS-1 6-25×56 optic on it. I’ve tested various factory loads through it (as I don’t the time to reload) and found it really like Nosler Match Grade 300 gr BTHP. Other ammunition tested were Winchester Match, HSM, Sellier&Belliot, and Ferderal GM SMK. The Federal GM SMK had very similar results, However, I can get the Nosler Match for about $20 cheaper a box. So, with Nosler Match, from prone off bi-pod and sand bag: Initially the groups 100yards were .890″ to .995″ (just under 1MOA) constantly. However, at 800 to 1000yards, we were able to consistantky achieve 5″-6″ groups. That puts us in the .5MOA to .75MOA area. Which to me is outstanding for a $2500 CAD rifle. After sticking with the Nosler Match for just over 100 rounds now, we are starting to see the groups tighten up. With consistand 3″- 4″ groups at 800yards (0.375-0.5MOA) and consistent 4″ & # 8211; 5″ groups at 1000yards (0.4 – 0.5MOA). Perhaps this improvement is due to the break in process of the rifle or it learning to like the Nosler Match even more. I don’t often get to shoot out past 1000yards. But a recent experience is what prompted me to write this review is that’s what we can call it. I attempted shots at a silhouette size steel target at 1450 yards. After 6 shots to learn my dope at that distance, I started landing rounds mid target. On a calm morning with 1-3 mph gusty breeze, 5 degrees celcious, 70% RH, I tried a 5 shot group. From Bi-Pod and sand bag. After hearing 5 dings, we got on the wheeler to have a look. Much to my surprise, 4 of the 5 shots formed an outstanding 7″ group with one of the 5 rounds hitting about 4″ high straight above the group. Considering the 4 we’ll grouped rounds… I was pleasantly surprised to see that the gun was capable of approx 0.5MOA at 1450yards. Wow is all I can say! Can’t wait to try it again. I’m not a professional shooter. I’m lucky to get out to shoot 4-5 times a year. What more can I say. $2500 Rifle, $700 Scope, $140 box of ammo. This is cheap cost and outstanding performance for 1450yard .338 lapua shots here in New Brunswick. In my very non expert opinion anyways.

Is it my imagination or did they change receivers on the rifle? They started out with a nice target receiver with just the ejection and load port a la model 12 with the one that looks like just their completely open top version a la model 10.

I don’t know they they ever changed them… but I may be wrong.

Lot’s of great feedback here on the Savage BA 110 in .338 Lapua. Here’s mine: Bought it 6 month ago – LOVE IT! I’ve got a Remington 700 Sendero in a Accuracy International chassis (7mm Rem Mag) and a Weatherby Mk5 TRR (.300 Win Mag), and the Savage is my favourite by far. I do hand load which helps accuracy immensely. All my rifles shoot sub-MOA. People, the most important component of any LONG RANGE set-up is good optics! Hunters and sport shooters can get away with a low cost scope (300 yard range), but if you are shooting long distance, quality glass is essential. Having said that, I’ve found my best cartridges are: Lapua Brass, Berger OTM 250 hybrid’s (haven’t tried the 300’s yet as no one here locally sells them), CCI 250 LMR primers, Retumbo powder – 90.1 gn set to .008 off the lands. Fire formed neck-sized brass only. Vortex Razor Gen 2 4.5x27x56 MIL scope on Nightforce rings. Zero’ed 200 consistently shoots <1 inch groups at 300 yards, often hole-in-hole results.

If you are on the fence of buying this rifle, do it, you'll have no regrets. I can out shoot my friends Sako TRG-42 but that can be the shooter and not just the rifle. Wink.

Oh, forgot to add, “Shooting both prone and benchrest, off of an Altas bi-pod and rear sandbag. Nothing done to the factory trigger which broke at 1.3 pounds from the factory. Never had a complaint or issue”

I also love mine, one of the best mods is to get rid of that stupid scope rail. I installed a ken ferrell scope rail with 40 moa built in. It is also made of steel instead of aluminum, topped the rail off with night force steel rings and a vortex viper ffp pst. The only other mod that I did was to shim the rear of the trigger housing, it takes all of the crap out of the trigger.

Love my savage .338 lapua stealth… though I have not been able to fire it yet. Where is the best place to get bi pods and other goodies for it? As soon as I narrow down my scope and ammo choices I will be enjoying this amazing creation much more.

I bought a Savage 110 BA about a year ago. I reload my own ammo and use 300 gr Berger backed by 89.5 gr of Retumbo. The range is 186 yards and I bust golf balls all day long (they completely disappear). I’ve let 14 year old girls and up shoot this rifle and get dirty looks from fathers and husbands when the girls and girlfriends/wives tell them they want one. Really a pleasure and a lot of fun to shoot. All my shooting friends want one now.

Wondering if you are using Lapua brass? I’m shooting the same rifle but with Berger 250 OTM’s. That’s all they had in stock at the time. I’ve just gotten some 300 OTM’s and was wondering where to start my ladder testing. I use 91.2 grains of retumbo and seat .008 off the lands. Milk jugs at 1500 all day long! 그것을 사랑해!

Gun Review: Savage 10/110 BA Stealth Rifle.

Savage Arms has earned a solid reputation for making highly accurate, quality rifles at an affordable price. As soon as I saw the 10/110 BA Stealth I was drawn to its minimalist, modern chassis stock appearance and Savage’s reputation for accuracy. TTAG borrowed this example, chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor and put it through its paces.

Though our sample is a right-handed gun, lefties can still rejoice. As Savage often does, the Stealth is also available in a southpaw version in the same five calibers:.223, .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, .300 Win Mag, and .338 Lapua Mag.

I’m not usually a chassis rifle kind of a guy, but I really like this Savage-tweaked MDT / Drake Associates simple and “bare bones” chassis. The M-LOK handguard doesn’t even bother to cover the top half of the barrel, and the action is left fairly exposed, too.

Compatible with painfully expensive Accuracy International magazines, the Stealth ships with a detachable, 10-round, polymer box mag from MDT instead. It functioned great.

At the back of the chassis, there’s no excess material — just enough to mount an AR-15 pistol grip and receiver extension. Great choices, of course, as it opens up near-infinite options for user customization.

Which you’ll want to purchase; the FAB Defense GLR-16 buttstock is horrible. Though, according to the Savage website, they’re now using the GL-Shock instead. It sounds like that’s a true upgrade, but as for the GLR-16…

It’s horrible. Did I mention that? The recoil pad looks like the bottom of a combat boot or an off-road truck tire and, guess what, it feels like one, too. It’s wider than my shoulder pocket, the rubber is rock hard, and the teeth along the edges create pressure points.

With no curvature in any direction and a limited amount of raised surface area, and its weirdly wide size, the recoil forces are concentrated on just a couple of those traction teeth.

I know, I know, 6.5 Creedmoor is a light-recoiling caliber. Indeed, it has like 25 percent less felt recoil than .308. Say what you will (commenters on our FB page certainly did), but this stock does its best to make a pleasant-to-shoot caliber uncomfortable. Shooting the rifle, I developed visible bruising from the left and right edges of the GLR-16, and I do not bruise easily.

Furthermore, it’s wobbly. Designed to fit either a mil-spec or commercial receiver extension, it’s oversized for the commercial tube with quite a bit of play. That’s annoying for what’s ostensibly a precision rifle. The tactical AR-15 stock — apparently made to be used with body armor — also looks out of place.

On that sour note, we may as well cover my only other complaint about the BA Stealth: the bolt lift is sticky. The camming surfaces quickly showed finish wear. More force was necessary to lift that bolt and cock the striker than expected.

It was a struggle to unlock the bolt without tilting the Stealth on the bipod or keeling the whole rig over. The flat surface behind the bolt can be used for thumb-applied leverage, but after most shots I found myself moving my support hand forwards to grab the rifle and push back against the torque of my other hand lifting the stiff bolt.

Even after a couple hundred rounds there wasn’t a discernible “break-in.” Polishing the wear surfaces plus a dab of grease in these areas would probably help, though. Overall I’d say the slightly sloppy and sticky feel of the action alludes to the gun’s budget-oriented price point (as chassis guns go).

On the plus side, Savage rarely misses when it comes to triggers. The AccuTrigger is adjustable. This one was so darn crisp and nice from the factory I left it exactly as-is. Pull weight is a hair under 2 lbs. It’s creep free and breaks like glass.

In 6.5 Creedmoor, the Stealth has a 24″ fluted barrel. Its 5/8×24-threaded muzzle ships with a thread protector installed (not pictured), but a suppressor is a better accessory.

But does the 10 BA Stealth live up to Nick’s 1 MOA accuracy for $1,000 rule of thumb?

Mostly, yeah. With four loose rounds of American Eagle 140 grain OTM I got my SIG TANGO6 5-30×56 scope zeroed. Then I went to shoot a five-round group of Federal Fusion 140 grain hunting ammo at the top left target and ended up hitting seven inches low and two inches right.

It was good for a 1.42 MOA group. Further testing showed this wasn’t a fluke. The ammo was consistently producing a vastly different point of impact from all of the other loads in addition to worse groups. As I wasn’t chronographing anything I can’t speculate about the reason. Though I can say I’ve had great results from Fusion in other rifles.

Hornady BLACK 140 grain was fired next, resulting in a group scratching up on the 1 MOA mark.

Next up: Hornady’s 120 grain ELD Match. And we’re sub-MOA now at 0.79 minutes or 0.827 inches.

This was followed by another Hornady load; their 147 grain ELD Match. Fairly similar performance at about 0.88 MOA.

Finally, on a couple different range trips I shot groups with Winchester 140 grain Match. All were sub-MOA with a healthy margin. The two above at 0.479 MOA and 0.651 MOA were typical.

Results at longer ranges were similar, with the 75 percent size IDPA target above taking fire at 436 yards with the Hornady 120 grain ELD Match load. This group measures 0.868 MOA with an almost perfectly horizontal dispersion suggesting some gusty wind at play.

We were shooting the Stealth while filming the above video on the MagnetoSpeed Target Hit Indicator. As you can see, it isn’t much of a challenge to make reliable hits on various targets with this rifle and caliber.

That 4″ steel plate was no match for a simple ballistics app and the 10 BA Stealth. I plugged in 400 yards, held in my reticle for the drop, and pegged it about an inch down and right from center.

Overall, yes, it’s absolutely a one-minute rifle with most loads (the American Eagle was also just a hair under one minute) and a half-minute rifle with some. No idea what was going on with the Federal Fusion.

On balance, I really love the look and feel of the Savage Model 10 BA Stealth. If I had bought it rather than borrowed it, I’d have already swapped out that abominable buttstock (the XLR Tactical Lite looks about perfect for this gun) and probably the pistol grip as well.

Nothing against the perfectly nice Hogue grip, generally, I’d just prefer a more precision rifle-oriented option on this bolt gun. Namely, something a bit more vertical with a larger palm swell.

The Stealth is accurate and, for a chassis gun with a 24-inch barrel, light. It has no frills and a minimalist design and a superb trigger. Working the bolt shows some wobble and that bolt lift is sticky. Overall it’s a fun gun to shoot and it’s more than accurate enough for any intended use.

There’s something about that sleek, small, bottom-half-only forend that I really like.

Swap the stock and then we’ll talk. That wobbly, poky thing is terrible, though the adjustable cheek riser was useful. Otherwise, the Stealth’s ergos are quite good.

AR-15 stock and grip compatibility means thousands of options there. A Pic rail for optics doesn’t leave you stuck with proprietary rings, while the M-LOK forend accepts accessories of all sorts. Aftermarket options exist for extended optics rails and more. Plus, the barrel is threaded.

Nick is all about 1 MOA for $1,000, and the 10 BA Stealth, available for just a hair over a grand, bested half-MOA (which is twice as good, I suppose) with one of the factory loads I tried and was at or under 1 MOA with a handful of others. Mechanical accuracy is certainly there, and the great trigger helps the shooter do his or her job, too. The wobbly, uncomfortable stock does no favors.

Zero issues. Ran smoothly and properly aside from a stiff bolt lift.

The lousy stock (since replaced by Savage) and the action’s budget rifle feel keeps the rifle out of the five star category. Still, the Stealth is an accurate, good looking, highly configurable, reliable rifle with a fantastic trigger.

This gun looks boring as hell, and I want one.

I’m very curious how the Tikka T3x Tac A1 does up against this. My small amount of experience with Tikka rifles is that they are smooth to operate and very good shooters. Maybe you could do a vs match with the Ruger Precision, this rifle and the Tikka.

There are a number of other chassis rifles out there, including Howa and Bergarra, all falling roughly within a few hundred of the same price point. What we really need is a grans hoot off!

Savage makes IMO the best value rifles on the market. Their xp and 16/116 are really put together nicely.

i have one savage and, other than the stock it is a great shooter.

the butt pad reminds me of an old hiking boot as well. it shouldn’t be necessary, but i’m sure it could be shaved narrower.

When I saw the photo of the butt pad, I immediately thought of pieces of tire tread left on the road after a blowout, or pieces of road kill with tire tread impressions embedded in to them.

I have in of these in order in 6.5 creedmoor. Savage has a $150 rebate for the .308 and 6.5 versions. You can snag oNE off these right now for about $750. I plan on swapping the stock for a PRS of Luth AR adjustable. Even with that, I am still under the cost of. Ruger Precision rifle by a few hundred bucks.

M1Lou — did you check out that XLR Tactical Lite that I linked near the end of the review? Looks pretty sweet. I like the Magpul PRS stock a whole lot, but it’s a bit porky and I think the design of the XLR one matches the BA Stealth pretty well.

I just took a look at it. It looks pretty good. What is also nice is it comes with the buffer tube. It looks like you need an adapter to put the PRS on the tube that comes on the Stealth. That is about $50. Also, the place I bought a PRS from is out of stock. They had them for just under $200 shipped. Looks like I might just grab the XLR. It really does look like it will match the aesthetics of the rifle.

Good review ! Want one, caliber choices are great. Good for the $$$, and even from the looks of it, not sure what fab defense was thinking.

I’ll take 5, one of each cartridge please! I have been lusting after an RPR since they came out, but sadly no lefty version. The design of the Savage bolt is not the smoothest, but there are mods that can be done to lighten the lifting force.

338 LAPUA will reach out there and bring some thunder , I’m in on this in this caliber and yes , I will replace the boot sole . Making my phone call Tuesday , hope to be testing it in a few weeks . excited , already have a piece of glass that’s been waiting for just the right partner , to the range boys .
